Paul Janes is keeping the groove vibe alive with 'Hard As Funk' and he deserves more props for doing so - there's just not enough of this stuff around. This is a classy four-track EP with tracks from Acido Amigo, Ali Wilson & DMF and Paul himself. But the best tracks also have the best names so check out the suitably angry 'Middle Finger' and the superbly monikered 'Bitch Tits'. (No.3 in the Mixmag Hard Dance top 20)

Full credit to Paul Janes and his Hardasfunk label for daring to be different during these lean times for labels, and they've even upped the ante here by offering four tracks on 'The Groovebox EP'. Paul leads from the front with two tracks of his own, with 'Middle Finger' a rump-shaking' mix of clanking percussion and 'Bitch Tits' an intriguing fusion of electro touches against a pacy hard tech groove. Elsewhere on the EP, the trusty 303 is unleashed in the acid-laden techno foot tapper 'Peri Peri', while Ali Wilson & DMF also get in on the action with the irresistibly funky hard house party pumper 'R2-D2', that's got shades of Steve Thomas's old Tripoli Trax classics about it. Fierce, funky and in the box.
